8 ways to spoil your Mum on Mother’s Day

10 March 2020

Mother's Day falls on 22nd March this year, and boy are we excited! We love seeing all the messages of love on social media and thoughtful gifts that people pick out for their Mum. But what is most lovely is having the excuse to spoil your mum or special lady in your life, and spend some quality time with her.

We share our 8 ideas on how to spoil your Mum on Mothering Sunday that don't have to break your piggy bank.

Idea #1 Breakfast in Bed

Busy Mum’s deserve a lay in on Mothering Sunday, and what a treat it is to have breakfast freshly made and delivered in bed! You can get creative with flipping great Pancakes, dippy soldiers and eggs (an old school, highly underrated breakfast treat!), or try your hand at easy eggs benedict.

One of my favourite recipes to cook my Mum is this a-maz-ing Eggs Benedict Pancakes from BBC Good Food, which is a twist on the classic dish and super easy to make in under 20 minutes.

Idea #2 A bunch of bespoke flowers

Beautiful flowers delivered on Mother’s Day are always a big hit! Your local florist will be able to help you pick the perfect flowers that your mum will love – if she has a favourite bloom such as tulips, roses or lilies, let your local florist know and they can incorporate them in to the design. They can also make expert recommendations on seasonal flowers, so you get the very best flwoers for your budget. Many local florists offer a special Mothering Sunday flower delivery service, so you can surprise your mum with flowers on the actual day.

Want to find your local florist? Use our helpful Florist Find search tool to find the florists listed in your area.

Idea #3 Sing-a-long in style

Choose a couple of your Mum’s favourite musical DVDs (Sound of Music, The Greatest Showman, Hairspray, Mamma Mia and Grease would definitely make our top 5 shortlist!), pop on your favourite PJs, cook some popcorn in the microwave and grab your makeshift microphone and enjoy an afternoon belting out your favourite movie songs! A relaxed and fun way to spend an afternoon together - especially great if it is cold and wet outside!

Idea #4 Afternoon Tea Treat

One of our favourite ways to spend an afternoon – filling our bellies with delicious finger sandwiches, scones and dinky cakes! Who made cucumber sandwiches taste so good?? Many restaurants and cafes are geared up to help us celebrate Mother’s Day with Mothering Sunday Afternoon Tea events.

If you live in the Sussex area, how about Afternoon Tea in a Castle? The historic Amberley Castle near Arundel is a stunning setting for Afternoon Tea, with the option of upgrading to a Champagne Afternoon Tea if you want to add some extra sparkle!

Idea #5 National Trust Event

The National Trust have a whole host of events going on in March to help celebrate Mother’s Day. Spend some precious time as a family wandering round the colourful gardens in Spring bloom, join a Snow drop planting workshop or enjoy a guided tour of the historic property.

If your Mum loves gardening, the National Trust also offer a year Gift Membership – which means she can explore National Trust properties and gardens around the UK. Check out their website for more information on Mother's Day events taking place in your local area.

Idea #6 Flower workshops

The greatest gift you can give anyone is your time. Book you and your mum on to a Mother’s Day Flower Workshop for an afternoon of fun and learning a new skill such as floral crown making or Spring vase displays. Workshops are hosted by many local florists across the country, so have a look on their website or social media page for details.

Idea #7 Bake a cake

Spoons at the ready! Get your cooking apron on, and take guidance from Queen of Baking Mary Berry and make a Mother’s Day cake. She has some quick and easy recipes to follow, so you can surprise your Mum with a yummy slice of home baked cake. Our favourite cake recipes so far have been Mary Berry’s Orange Cake and for all the chocoholics out there you HAVE to try the Chocolate Ripple Cheesecake!

Idea #8 Ahhhhhhh Spa day

Annnnnnnnnd relax! Tired Mum’s will love the treat of a pamper day at a local Spa to unwind and feel truly spoilt from head to toe. Many luxury spas offer a range of Spa packages to choose from, which can include lunch and a treatment or 2.

We love the look of the Stable Spa at Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire, which has  heated indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi full of soothing bubbles, sauna and steam room, outdoor terrace (weather permitting of course!) and treatment rooms.
